Every family has disagreements, often caused by the wear and tear of changes that occur over time. Usually these disagreements are short-lived and get resolved but sometimes they continue and cause stress that can affect everyone in the family. If you think this is happening in your family then Relate Family Counselling can help you.
What is Relate Family Counselling?
You can see a Relate Family Counsellor individually, as a small group or the whole family together. We won’t take sides or tell you what to do, we will encourage each family member to have a voice and help you resolve your differences together. Together with your family counsellor, you will decide which family members will come to the sessions and how frequently you want to come. Sometimes all family members will attend a session but sometimes only some will choose to come for a session. The choice will depend on what needs to be talked about and who it affects most.
How can you help me?
Relate can help families, parents and young people in their family life. We can also support you and your children through a divorce or separation.
All families are unique and have unique problems but our counsellors are experienced relationship experts and are specially trained to work with families to help resolve their problems. The heart of family counselling is learning to listen to each other differently so that you can understand what each family member is trying to communicate and how you are all differently affected by such messages to each other. The family counsellor will then invite you all to think about what you would want to be different and how to achieve that.
What will counselling cost?
£45 per hour is the standard payment. This covers the cost of providing a Relate trained counsellor and does not make a profit. For East Staffordshire residents who find it difficult to contribute this amount payment will be negotiated according to your income and circumstances. Young peoples counselling, some family counselling and particular areas of East Staffordshire are funded and therefore free. Please ask for details.
